Players & Coaches Groups

June 6, 2007

Folks, I’ve created two groups for the community to get started with - Players & Coaches groups.  I have opened these groups up for anyone that would like to join.  However, I have asked a simple opening question of both groups, "What would you like to accomplish or discuss with this group (or what should the purpose of the group be)?

If you’d like to start a group of your own then Get Stuck In!  It’s easy and here’s a link to the groups section of the site:

Becks to big of a star for Galaxy?

June 5, 2007

According to Alan Shearer,
former England skipper and New Castle Goal God, "Becks is just too
big of a star for LA."  Kinda sucks that England’s Top Brass did not
have much faith in Becks and the same with Real Madrid.

Players go through tough times or slumps but, the best recover and true leadership can see through this
stuff.  So, maybe Becks is really showing his leadership here by seeing
the potential here in America Mr. Shearer.  Its certainly not gonna
hurt Becks in the pocket book.  Moreover, our boys don’t seem to be
complaining about the long flights over the pond and back for the US
National team.

I think Becks is at a point in his career where he has greater
control of calling his own shots and has the balls to do something
different.  In my book, he’s doing something to grow the game.

Am I totally off base?  You know what - who cares? …. MLS fans can’t wait
to see him and will treat’em as an even bigger star.  Can’t wait to see
who else wants to come and play.

Hopefully Donvan can finish like this for Becks?

Ziga-Zoga’s Story

June 3, 2007

Zicke-Zacke was originally a chant by German futbol fans imploring their players to zig zag through the opponent and onto victory ("Zicke-Zacke Zicke-Zacke hoi hoi hoi").

Now, the spirit of that European chant has evolved into Americas newest soccer community dedicated to players, coaches, parents, fans and, yes, even referees, with the mission of developing a relentless grassroots movement to grow the beautiful game in North America and beyond.

Welcome to Ziga-Zoga (pronounced: Zig-ga Zāg-ga) a revolutionary multiple-level website and portal that will equipped with state-of-the-art technology and capabilities to enhance how soccer is played, taught, viewed and shown across the United States.

Our battle cry is Get Stuck In, which is what players do when theyre defending the goal on a corner kick up 1-0 with less than two minutes to play.  Simply put: its that defining moment when the game hangs in the balance.

Ziga-Zoga was created to promote the qualities that define American soccer intelligence, creativity, speed of play, heart and the relentless pursuit of victory.

A critical component of Ziga-Zoga is the multiple-level website and portal of information and viewing capabilities that will tap into the deep undercurrent of emotional energy players, coaches, parents, fans, and referees from coast to coast have with soccer.  Being bottom-up and people-powered, Ziga-Zoga will provide a cutting-edge blend of editorial, education, social interaction, technology, gaming, advertising opportunities and other soccer-specific services for players, coaches, parents, fans, referees, products and corporations. But well need help from the extended soccer community to build and develop Ziga-Zoga from what it is today to what it will be tomorrow.

Once fully functional, it will change the way players and fans view soccer sites in the future.  Dare we say revolutionary?  Straight to the point, Ziga-Zoga offers mind-blowing possibilities.  We can only give you an overview at this point, but be assured the capabilities were planning will help players, coaches, parents and fans like never before.

Think of Ziga-Zoga as your four-story soccer headquarters for not only U.S. soccer, but, eventually, also European, South American and Asian futbol.  Here’s a birds eye view of the four Tiers and the explosive opportunities.

The first story, or Tier I, will be free to all and offer a tremendous source of editorial content, but will also provide social interaction and communication tools to include posting photos, video, creating personal profiles, groups, email, calendars and  blogs that will allow users to share with other members or specified individuals, such as friends and relatives, professional colleagues,  college coaches or professional scouts.

Up the stairs to the second story and beyond will be a myriad of features and benefits including technical training information and direction from special guests and experts along with an array of soccer-specific entertainment and growth driven tools that any player, coach, parent or referee would want.  This incredible portal will continually evolve and will always be geared toward providing development opportunities by delivering products and services that specifically serve the passionate soccer community.

So, how did Ziga-Zoga get started?  Back in 2004, co-founders Jason Cronkhite, Steve Arters and Ed Sakiewicz — board members for the San Antonio Metropolitan Youth Soccer Institute (SAMYS) — were working on a website concept for the non-profit organization.  The goal was to build awareness for the groups developing soccer fields and establish better communication with the local soccer community about various topics.

Jason, a former college soccer player, and Steve, a longtime club soccer dad, are SAMYS marketing and communications directors and over time their ideas for the website took on a more national scope.

About a year later, in a sort of rolling thunder of good (and not-so-good) ideas came a strategic initiative to develop a multiple-day festival-like soccer event that could generate top competition, specific coaching and training seminars and, of course, additional revenue that could be moved to different markets across the U.S. (stay tuned to Ziga-Zoga for future updates).

The two continued to brainstorm and that concept morphed into a way to connect the U.S. Soccer Community from coast to coast by topics, issues and circumstances that affect everyone from club trainers and players of ages to referees to the legion of underappreciated-but-dedicated soccer parents.

The World Wide Web seemed to be a natural platform and in early 2006 Jason concocted the name Ziga-Zoga.  From there, Jason and Steve mapped out the strategic direction, the look and feel you see today and the long-term vision that continues to evolve.  Dr. Ed Sakiewicz re-entered the fray after taking a year hiatus to complete his comprehensive study called, "A Comparative Study on Enterprise Risk Management & Decision Making Criteria Used in Developing Soccer-Specific Stadiums for Major League Soccer".  Ed is  adding perspective in multiple areas and developing the corporate sponsorship and advertising initiatives to name a few.

It’s been a long and winding road, but, with your help, we can develop and evolve Ziga-Zoga into an incredible soccer community for all.

So if you’re a passionate player, coach, fan, dedicated parent or referee - congratulations, you’ve just found the most important soccer website you’ll ever need.

Campasano Welcomes Members to ZZ Labs

June 2, 2007

Wanted to welcome all of you, old friends, previous members, and new
members to the new Ziga-Zoga labs site. We have made some changes to
our original community site, but these changes are hopefully for the
good. We will be using this portal as a starting point for our
offerings and will be continually communicating with our members to
find out what they are looking for in a social community such as this.

Be
on the lookout for some great content and articles (from some world
class experts, such as Simon Smith (former Goalkeeping coach from
Newcastle United), Soccer Coaching International (a world class soccer
magazine from Holland), and many others. We will also be introducing
some new and exciting features in the not-so-distant future, so keep an
eye out for those as well.

Again, I wanted to welcome everyone to
our site and hope that we all can make this one of the best soccer
sites around. Lets all "GET STUCK IN" and participate….we all can
help each other make this game even greater than It already is!
