MLS on YouTube!
May 30, 2007
If you have not heard MLS and YouTube announced a channel partnership today. This is awesome news for the league and its great that they are thinking of how to leverage new media. I know many of the GM’s across the league are looking at some very innovative strategies to further connect and grow passionate fanbases - keep it up guys and stay close to the roots.
Michael Hitchcock or "Hitch" with FC Dallas has been very open to brainstorming with us here in Texas and I commend him for the openness. These are exciting times for soccer in the US and the opportunities are just blossoming. Check out the channel below.
Club or Country and the role of G-14
May 29, 2007
As we all would agree, it’s an honor to play for and represent your country but, what happens when players get injured on National duty and cannot play for their club? It’s a touchy situation both politically and from a business perspective.
You may or may not be aware of the G-14 ( a standing organization established to represent the collective views of many elite professional clubs in Europe)? Depending on what side of the fence your on - you love the G-14 or hate ‘em. What I find interesting though is one of the important issues that is wrapped up in litgation now which is, who’s responsible for a players contract when they get injured playing for country?
Plattini wants to replace the G-14 for reasons of power abuse. Belgian club Sporting Charleroi filed suit and is seeking damages from FIFA due to one its players being sidelined for 8 months from injury during National squad service.
Michael Owen just returned to Newcastle from his World Cup injury and with Beckham headed to LA and being called back to England’s squad, these situations present a very real risk to the clubs. Now, abusing legal systems is one thing but, this seems to be a real issue that needs discussion and I thought I’d open it up for anyone interested.
Who’s really into soccer - according to Google?
May 28, 2007
Well, it appears the folks in Africa, Australia and Canada are pretty passionate about their soccer according to Google. It seems the search term "soccer" is pretty popular in these countries. I wonder which big companies are really paying attention to this stuff since its really important from a marketing perspective.
I thought it was interesting an wanted to share. I bet you did not know that "football" is the most popular search term in the UK and I’m talking about the real football

What’s Ziga-Zoga been up to?
May 27, 2007
Where did we go? What hole did we retreat too?…and many other questions abound. Well, the truth is we launched our initial demo site and had a bit of trouble with some things but that’s ok. In the process we actually learned alot about what we need to do better for our community and got some very good feeback from the users that signed up.
We’ve been revaluating where we are, doing lots of research and talking to lots of people (zz members and strategic partners). We have actually entered into some early stage strategic partnerships with some really cool soccer-specific companies around the world and continue conversations with others.
We have really taken a look at some interesting technologies that we hope to demo soon but more importantly we want to make an extra special effort to better engage our user community to deepen our understanding of the community needs. We still have a lot to learn and we think the best way is to continue putting things out there for you to experiment with and listen to what you have to say.
So, we heard you with our first demo and within the next couple of weeks, we hope to invite everyone to a new community lab site we have set up to continue getting feedback as we continue to evolve. Speaking of evolving, if you’d like to understand a bit more about how a bootstrap company approaches its evolvement watch this video of Bijoy, Founder of the Bootstrap Network, explain the philosophy of Bootstrapping:
